Queens Gardens

This photograph, taken in Queens Gardens shows several features of composition. The footpaths are leading lines as they emerge from the bottom of the screen and continue on into the distance. Also, the image is very symmetrical; cut down the middle the picture would be very similar on both sides given the position of where it has been taken from.

Shotwell Ammunition Factory and Hull Docks

This photograph was taken from the 8th floor of Hull College looking East towards the Shotwell Tower in the foreground, and St George’s Dock and BP Saltend in the distance. The image shows balancing elements; the focus of the image, the tower, is off centre. The tower in the foreground also allows us to see a depth of field with the docks in the distance.

The Wilberforce Statue

This photograph of the Wilberforce Statue shows the rule of thirds as the main focus of the image is in the centre. The tree to the left also shows depth of field. The statue is also very symmetrical and could be said to show leading lines as it appears from the bottom of the image and the eye follows it up to the top.
